What info to trust?

Now before I get started with this post I wanted to say something. I hope that no one will take offense  to what I post on this blog. It is my intention to post the new and interesting information and insights that I learn in my class. I will be as fact based as I can and would love to hear any and all commentary or experiences that you feel would add to the blog.

This week was particularly eye-opening in regards to the analysis of the information presented to us in the media, for example the report that the American Psychological Association (APA) published in 2005. This publication is well know for it's effect on the most recent supreme court case which legalized gay marriage. The APA included this assertion in their findings: "Not a single study has found children of lesbian or gay parents to be disadvantaged in any significant respect relative to children of heterosexual parents (p. 15). Interestingly enough such a famous and important announcement may be misleading when the actual case studies are more closely examined. For instance many of the studies were done with few participants or with out comparing gay couples to straight couples, kinda weird huh? I won't go into detail as to every little part of the study as it is extensive and would take a long time to read, but I would invite you to read it and in form yourself prior to taking a position on wether or not you believe me (link provided below).

In any case the main point I wanted to get across is that we as responsible citizens in our perspective societies need to be well informed. Not only that we as responsible fathers, mothers, sons, or daughters need the know what is best for our families. Be careful not to make assumptions based on half truths or jaded opinions. We owe it to ourselves to take the time to learn the truth before we act. Well that's all for now have a good one!
